After viewing your classmates’ presentations, which cultural group did you find most interesting? Explain why. Then, reflect on how this presentation changed or deepened your understanding of that culture.

Prompt Response: Although there were many different stereotypes show in presentations a couple of them struck me as odd, particularly the presentation regarding the native Americans. As it depicts them as savages and it was explained so and so int eclipse that were shown. The specific clips that was used was Pocahontas, the Disney movie. It depicted the Native Americans as savages and they actively disproved these claims during the song/singing segments of the movie. Summary: Today, we presented our presentations on stereotypes in film. Reflection: There are so many stereotypes in film but yet are overlooked because we have just grown so very accustomed with them that we just don't realize them.

Which factor plays a greater role in shaping your future career choice: your genuine interest and passion for the field, or the financial benefits and stability it can provide? In your response, explain which one you prioritize and why, and consider how this decision might impact your long-term happiness, motivation, and overall quality of life.

Prompt Response: What I prioritize is the financial stability and the benefits that it can provide. Financial stability provides freedom and reduces stress. A high paying stable job allows you to pursue your passions as hobbies without the pressure of having to monetize them. Stability ensures access to healthcare, housing, and the ability to travel or support a family. it makes a safety net that allows for a more relaxed lifestyle. Summary: There were no class today other than odd block. Reflection: I can imagine myself 10-20 years from now with the dream job I've always wanted. Its almost as if its closer than I had anticipated.

What is the most exciting thing about graduating high school for you personally? In your response, explain what you are looking forward to most after graduation (college, career, independence, travel, etc.) and why it matters to you.

Prompt Response: The most exciting thing about graduation is the relief of some stress knowing that I am finally done with high school will relieve me of some of the stress of school. That isn't the main point though, I will have more time to do things until I go to work or college  until then I can do many of the things I want to do without the pressures of school. I cannot wait to see where life leads me once I am out of school. Summary: Today we watched a ted talk and worked on an assignment. Reflection: I know what I want to do after high school and hopefully one day I am able to achieve that dream but first I have to start after graduation.

Cities can also be an important part of a person’s cultural identity, shaping their values, experiences, and way of life. Think of a movie or TV show that changed the way you see a specific city. How was that city and its culture portrayed, and did it present a full picture or a “single story”? Explain how this portrayal could influence how people view those who live there.

Prompt Response: The show Emily in Paris portrays Paris as a perfect place with pretty clothes, constant parties, and very little hard work. This creates a single story because it ignores the real struggles and the many different kinds of people who actually live there. This portrayal can make viewers think people in Paris are rude or lazy, which is not true for a large and busy city. Summary: Today we got assigned a project on stereotypes in film. Reflection: Our group has to find a film that has a stereotype on rural white Americans and I feel like that wont be too hard to find honestly.

Why do you think filmmakers continue to use stereotypes, even when they can be harmful or inaccurate? Explain one reason discussed in class and give your opinion on whether this justifies their use.

Prompt Response: Filmmakers use stereotypes because they are a fast and easy way to tell a story without explaining too much. Studios often stick to these old ideas because they are afraid that new or different characters might not make enough money. Many times, the people making the movies do not realize they are being unfair because they do not have diverse voices helping them write the script. Summary: I went on a field trip to Kennesaw Mountain with Mr. Rease Reflection: I feel like filmmakers keep using the stereotypes because its just the easiest way to make a story and they roll with it too because most people tolerate it.

Think about the most stereotypical film you have ever seen. This could be a movie that represents a specific culture, race, gender, or group in an oversimplified or unrealistic way. In your response, explain what film you are referring to, what stereotypes were present in the film, and how those stereotypes shaped your understanding of that group at the time

Prompt response: Disney's movie Aladdin shows the Middle East in a way that is not very realistic or fair. It uses tense music and overall mean characters to make the desert seem like a very dangerous and strange place. This made me think as a kid that everyone from that part of the world was either a villain or a thief instead of seeing them as normal people. Summary: Today we learned more about stereotypes in film. Reflection: The way people are represented in film seem very unorthodox and a low hanging fruit as it rubs in the the most common stereotypes for that particular culture that's being represented.

Hair can be a powerful way people express who they are and where they come from. Think about your own hair, your style, texture, or how you choose to wear it. How does your hair connect to your culture or your identity? Describe a moment when your hair made you feel proud, uncomfortable, or misunderstood, and explain why.

Prompt response: Hair can be a powerful thing as it sticks with you all the time. The way its textured and styled can express your personality in some aspects. My hair is black and somewhat wavy and about everyone in my family also has black and wavy hair too. It connects with my culture as it portrays your identity and heritage. Sometimes my hair has been real messy and I felt real embarrassed by it but then I decided cut it because it used to be real long and I feel so much more relieved as it felt like a burden has  been lifted from my shoulders. Summary: Today, we are learning on how hair can represent identity and your culture. Reflection: I never knew that hair of all things can represent your culture, I thought food was absurd but who knows.
