Write about something that you believed as a child.

Prompt Response:   I always believed that I'd become a doctor or a teacher, and these beliefs are still alive even to this day. I know there will be times when these dreams will try to be stopped by others, but hopefully, one day I can live the dream that I wish to have later on in life. I know now that even dreams made as a kid can carry a long way even now. Summary: Today, we read another poem by Langston Hughes about dreams being deferred. Reflection:   I guess there are times you can get really regretful of things going on in life, and sometimes that is okay, as many times we live life with many regrets, but it is important that we do not let those regrets shroud our dreams for a better future.

Fences Act 1 Scenes 2 and 3

Act 1, Scene 2: How does Rose’s role as a wife and mother reflect societal expectations of women, particularly African American women, in the 1950s, and how does her sense of duty impact her relationship with Troy? Rose's role as a mother is reflected by how it is always seen as her doing all the chores around the house, and this is not just limited to her, but to all women back then.   Act 1, Scene 3: In what ways do Troy’s interaction with Corey reveals the complexities of masculinity and fatherhood in African American culture, and how does his past shape his expectations of manhood? Troy's interaction with Corey is a tough one as Troy is trying to balance his masculinity and fatherhood at the same time, which gets tough for him as he is trying to be a loving father, but also trying to teach him lessons about masculinity.

Write about a time when you were judged unfairly.

Prompt Response:  Many times, I have been judged unfairly by other people or even people close to me. One time, I was home, and my parents had told my older sibling to do a chore but I was forced to do it by my brother, as he just didn't want to do it. I was wondering if I was being forced to do it because he didn't like me, or if he's just lazy. Summary: Today, we did a CommonLit in class. Reflection:  It's just weird to me why do people get so judgmental of others.

After hearing your classmates’ storymap presentations, choose one classmate’s story that stood out to you. Write about what you liked or learned from their journey and explain why it was meaningful to you.

Prompt Response:   After hearing the storymaps from other classmates the one that stood out to me was Orlandos. I liked the many pictures he put of his childhood, many other people didnt do that and its nice that he can include the tidbits like that to enhance the performance of such a presentation. Summary: The class presented storymaps. Reflection:   Many classmates of mine really do have different stories to tell, they went through different things than I have and that is a little bit surprising to me.

Reflect on a time when you discovered a new perspective that completely changed how you viewed a person, group, or place. How did your previous “single story” shape your thoughts or actions?

Prompt Response:   At some point, I heard many stereotypes from many people to others and that really showed me that there are different stereotypes for a lot of different people, and it is real surprising because these stereoypes can change your views on people. Summary: Today, in class, we worked on a CommonLit assignment that was given to us because Mr. Rease wasn't here. Reflection:   Stereotypes are present around the world everywhere and many of these stereotypes are often hurtful but somehow some of them can be good somehow?

Recall a specific incident when someone’s words offended you. Describe what was said, how it made you feel, and what actions you took in response. Reflect on whether your response helped resolve the situation or changed how you think about communication.

One time, in elementary school, we were working on a classroom assignment, and the teacher was guiding us through the  lesson. While that was happening, I was following along on the sheet of work that we got with it. I had gotten one of the questions wrong, and the kid sitting next to me called me an idiot, and i clearly took offense to it because I'm wondering why he would just call me an idiot for no reason. Everyone makes mistakes. I don't know why he felt that he needed to say that about me. Summary: Absent  Reflection:   There are many people who say hurtful things about others, and it often feels like they don't consider how their words might affect others' feelings when they do so.

You are working on your storymap which is reflection on your past. Thinking about your future, as you graduate high school, what role does the Atlanta metro area play in your life? Do you plan to stay or move away? Explain your reasoning.

Prompt Response:   One day in the future, I wish to become more successful. I want a high-paying job and a home in the suburbs. I know I won't move from the Metro Atlanta space, as this has always been my home. Summary: We are working on a story map about an event that happened in my life. Reflection:   I hope I have a good year to have a good future later on in life. It all starts with good grades

Think about a moment when you challenged your parent(s)’ rules or expectations. How did you feel, and what was the outcome?

Prompt Response:   There are many times I challenged my parents many of the times they would get mad at me, but they know these are things I stand by. Other times, they won't just do anything to counteract me. I usually feel bad for what I do, but at the end of the day, they will forgive me, and I'll always forgive them. Summary: Today, we read the poem Two Kinds by Amy Tan. Reflection:   Sometimes, I wonder why things happen the way they do. Like why do people do bad things.

You’ve been in Multicultural Literature for about 4.5 weeks. How has the class been going for you so far?

Prompt Response:   So far, my year has been good. The class isn't too bad, but we as a class have had much to work on, particularly projects. I feel like we are going to have many projects in class, and it just feels like a hassle to me, but I'll get used to it eventually. Summary: Today, we are given the assignment of typing out 15 vocabulary words. Reflection:   I feel like the school year is going to harder than this. Its probably the amount of classes im taking but i dont know.
