In Wild, Cheryl Strayed writes about the difference between deciding to do something and actually committing to it: “There was the first, flip decision to do it, followed by the second, more serious decision to actually do it.” Reflect on a time in your own life when you made a quick or casual decision that later required a deeper commitment. Describe what changed between the first decision and the moment you realized you truly had to follow through. What fears, challenges, or responsibilities became real once the decision was no longer just an idea?

Prompt Response: One time in my engineering class, we had a catapult project, and we were able to choose the type of catapult. My group and I chose the most challenging one because we thought it would be easy. We later realized that the specific catapult we chose was incredibly challenging, as it had too many working parts and the instructions weren't as clear.

Summary: Today in class, we started reading chapter 1 of the book Wild by Cheryl Strayed

Reflection: Sometimes, there are choices that you have to make with more commitment and cannot just make a decision on a whim.

As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.
