Write about a time when you did something out of the norm. What was it and how did others react?

Prompt Response:   Sometimes, I stutter over my words, and I never usually do that. It just seemed to have happened to me at the time; the kids around me started mocking my stutter at the time. Granted, we were just little kids, but at the time, it was saddening to me, but I just learned to suck it up, as many people will point out your worst moments. Summary: Today, we read a poem about stereotypes about women. Reflection:   There are many different stereotypes in the world, and many of them are more offensive than others, but regardless, they are all bad.

Judith Ortiz Cofer says, “The Island travels with you.” What part of your culture, family, or identity do you feel “travels” with you everywhere you go?

Prompt Response:   What Cofer means by "The island travels with you" is that your culture always goes with you, and you can't leave that behind. My identity that I find that "travels with me" is my cultural identity, like my skin color, or since I am a brown people assume that I must eat spicy food. Summary: I was absent today, and I did the common lit work that was assigned while I was absent. Reflection:   Many stereotypes are seen traveling with people, showing how generalized the stereotypes are used in many places.

Write about an experience when someone assumed something about you because of a stereotype. What was the situation, and what did you do?

Prompt Response:   When I go out, people just assume me to be quiet and reserved, but I'm not like that. I'm usually an extrovert, but no one would try to get to know me in that way. So many people just keep their assumptions about me. When situations like that arise, i try to talk to the people who are generalizing me and say how I'm not so introverted like people believe me to be. Summary: We learned about stereotypes in class  Reflection:   I realize now that there are many stereotypes in the world and there are many people who use it and use it against people in general use and its saddening to see that.

Describe something you will never fully understand.

Prompt Response:   The way particular people act. Many people act very differently with many different people. I wonder why they just act the same with everyone? Why does it have to be different? It feels like a front is just being put on. I guess I really don't know why people act differently. What do they have to hide? I'm guessing that I'm just overthinking. Summary: Today, we are presenting our murals in class. Reflection:   It was nice seeing people doing their presentations, seeing people show off their culture and identity shows much in a new light.

Write about something that you wish you had more of.

Prompt Response:   What is something I wish I had more of? Time. It is the most precious thing that we have in life; time allows us to do many things. It allows us to do the most important things, yet it is always wasted. Why worry about one thing? You are just wasting your time. Live your life, do what you want; nothing is stopping you. Summary: Today, Mr Rease gave us the whole class period to work on our cultural identity murals on Adobe Express. Reflection:   I realize now that we can't afford to waste our time on useless things. All time is limited, and we just waste it like it is nothing. People need to just know that that time will never come back for you.

What is the most creative thing you have ever made? Share what it was and explain why it stands out as your best work.

Prompt Response:   When I was younger, I had to do a project, which was a diorama about an animal. I don't quite remember what it was about. When I had finished and submitted it, I had gotten a 100. I felt like everything was great, and everyone thought it was the best. But looking back at it now, I think it was pretty bad. Summary: Today, we visited Adobe Express and began working on our new project by creating a poem and explaining it on Adobe. Reflection:   Cultural Identity is a strong thing. It shows what kind of person you are and explains how things you like are done. I feel like no two cultural identities are the same, yet that doesn't mean that they can't be similar.

Everyone has burning questions about life. Mysteries we wonder about but don’t always have clear answers for. Think about your biggest questions about existence, purpose, or the world around you. Write a blog post where you share at least two of your most burning questions about life and explain why these questions matter to you.

Prompt Response:   Life is just a mystery, like many people want to believe what they believe, yet sometimes there are never answers to the questions we have, and it's really scary when you think about it. Is there really life on other planets? Is a question I've held on to very long, and I'm not talking about aliens; I am talking about human/humanoid life on planets far away, like they are just us. For most, the answer is easy; they just say no, which doesn't satisfy or give an answer to the question. When will there be a time to redeem yourself? Does the time ever really come? I guess even I can't answer a question like that. But the only reassurance I want from a question like that is. Does the time ever really come, or is that a delusional question? Summary: Today, we read the poem "I Too" by Langston Hughes and worked on a worksheet relating to the poem. Reflection:   There are many questions that people have in their lives. For most, left unanswered,...

Describe a time when you felt completely lost.

Prompt Response:   I was about 6 or 7 around the time the class was discussing something on the board, like a story. The story just seemed so confusing to me; I was just lost. No one around me felt like helping me out, and I felt like I was abandoned by my peers. What would I do if I didn't finish the work? How is this any easier than other things? I don't know, I just felt lost at the moment, but at the end of the day, everyone feels lost at times.  Summary: Today, we are presenting our cultural identity mask to the whole classroom. Reflection:   It's fine to show who you are, like what's to lose when you show what you represent in your cultural identity? I don't know, people shouldn't just be afraid to show their true self, that's the point of the mask..

Analyze how you’ve adapted to the demands of this course over the past week, and evaluate one strength and one challenge you anticipate as we progress, justifying your insights with personal examples.

Prompt Response:  The first week is reletively easy as there wasnt really much wrok to be done on the first week and i hope that spreads onto the rest of the year. One strength is being able to work together with partners as that would make group assignments particularly easier and we would be and to talk with friends or partners. One challenge I expect from the class is for the amount of projects we would work on in class as if we get many projects in class it would become overwhelming.  Summary: Today, we continued to work on the mask project and were tasked to write a reflection paper about the mask. Reflection: Today, I learned that it takes time and effort to get something right, and you must be able to be confident to speak and present in front of class.

Describe how gender roles or patriarchy influence your identity?

Prompt Response:   In my culture, there is no specific patriarchy when it comes to In my culture, there arent no power between male or female. Together, the males and females both share the same power and do not try to exert it in any way. When things do not go as intended, we learn from those experiences rather than stay on it. Summary: Today, we were assigned a project to design and create a mask that represents our cultural identity and shows our individuality. Reflection:   I learned today that it is okay to be yourself and show your cultural identity, and you shouldn't be afraid to represent who you are as a person. Many people are different in their own ways.

Describe a meaningful family tradition unique to your culture and explain how it mirrors or contrasts with the cultural identity themes of expectations and roles in "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid.

Prompt Response:   There are many different family traditions from my culture, and many of them do not stray far from some of the expectations given to the girl in the poem. One family tradition that is similar to the poem that is done in my family is to set the table for others and guests. One contrast to the expectations that are given to her is to iron clothing for others; that is just something that isn't common in our household. We believe that family members should iron their own clothing, as it is their responsibility and not the responsibility of others to do their work. Summary: Today, we took our pictures for our school ID and were unable to discuss anything in class. Reflection:   I learned that it is okay to be yourself sometimes. Many people discourage that way or act or speak or how you look, but that it fine, no one can penetrate what you believe in.

Reflect on how your cultural heritage shapes your daily expectations, inspired by "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid.

Prompt response:  My cultural heritage influences my daily expectations, which include respecting my elders, cleaning the house, and assisting with various household chores .   The poem "Girl" can relate to many people, as it discusses the many things that people are expected to do so that they can keep their cultural heritage in line with who they are as a person. In general, everyone should have their cultural heritage and should be proud of it. Summary:   Today, we read the poem "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid, and we discussed cultural identity in class. Reflection:   I'll try to take what I learned today and try to apply it more to my life and my cultural heritage, and my identity. This poem can relate to many people, including me, as it sets an example for what to do in life.
